Online monitoring of water quality nitrite has long faced a dilemma where accuracy and transmission distance cannot be optimized simultaneously. Electrochemical sensors deliver accurate data but suffer from complicated wiring; wireless transmission offers great convenience yet often fails to operate long-term in field environments due to high power consumption.

The LW116D supports LoRaWAN Class A/C modes and full frequency bands including CN470/EU868/US915. With a default reporting interval of 10 minutes and ultra-low overall power consumption, it can operate outdoors for several years when matched with a high-capacity lithium battery.
A built-in LED indicator is configured: flashing green light indicates network access in progress, while steady green light means successful network connection.

Notably, it supports both the standard LoRaWAN protocol and LoRa TDMA ad hoc networking. The standard protocol is applicable for connection to general IoT platforms such as TTN and Tencent Cloud IoT; the ad hoc networking mode enables point-to-point data collection in temporary sites without gateways. It is essential to confirm the required network architecture with suppliers during model selection.



3. Hidden Advantages of Integrated Design

Compared with the combined solution of a separate sensor and data transmission terminal, the integrated design of the LW116D offers three major advantages for selection:
  • Reliable Interface: The aviation connector directly links the electrode and transmitter, with internally defined line sequences for VCC, GND and RS485 A/B, eliminating on-site welding and terminal wiring.
  • Convenient Configuration: Connect the device to a PC via the Type-C port, and use the official Toolbox tool (115200bps, no parity check) to read and write parameters with one click, including DevEUI, AppEUI, AppKey and adjustable reporting intervals ranging from 1 to 65535 seconds.
  • Superior Protection: The enclosure supports IP68 submersible installation. The default electrode cable length is 5 meters (customizable). The sensor is required to be installed at an inclination of no less than 15°, avoiding horizontal or inverted mounting that causes air accumulation in the measuring chamber — a detail easily overlooked during on-site construction.



4. Calibration & Maintenance: Key Points to Confirm During Selection

As specified in the user manual, the sensor is factory-calibrated with two-point calibration and shall not be calibrated casually unless necessary. On-site calibration can be realized via LoRa downlink commands: zero calibration with 10 mg/L standard solution by issuing the command FE 03 00 64 EF, and slope calibration with 100 mg/L standard solution via FE 04 03 E8 EF. Calibration can also be completed through the configuration tool.
The service life of the electrode is about 1 to 2 years, and it will be shortened under severe water pollution conditions.

Selection Suggestion: If you are not equipped with standard calibration solution or proficient in using hexadecimal downlink commands, prioritize agents that provide professional calibration services or one-click calibration software; otherwise, later operation and maintenance will be cumbersome.


5. Data Parsing & Platform Integration
The LW116D adopts a compact hexadecimal format for uplink data, as exemplified below:
  • Original nitrite value: 00 05 = 5 → Actual concentration: 0.005 mg/L
  • Original temperature value: 00 C8 = 200 → Actual temperature: 20.0 ℃

Register address 0001H corresponds to nitrite (NO₂⁻), and 0002H corresponds to temperature. Most IoT platforms support data parsing with customized scripts, and the device can also be directly connected via Modbus RTU over LoRaWAN transparent transmission mode.
